Can you cut glass to any size I need?

Yes, Bear Glass cuts all kinds of glass and mirror to your exact specifications. Intricate tabletops or mirrors are handcut in our shop. A pattern can be made which our glaziers use as a guide. Plate glass or window glass, all safety glass, plexi and lexan are available in custom sizes.

Do you install heavy glass shower and bath enclosures? Yes, Bear Glass can custom design and install a beautiful bath enclosure with all kinds of glass and trim available. You’ll love the finished work.

Do you carry two-way mirror for security purposes?Yes we do.  We also have round convex mirrors for seeing around corners and bullet resistant glass for high security applications.

I have children and want a large mirror.  Is there some way to make it safe?
We have a safety backing which can be applied which holds the mirror together in the event it breaks.  It is a heavy duty self adhesive mesh which is applied in our shop.  We often use it in gyms and dance studios.

Do you work with insurance?

Absolutely!   We will work with your insurance company to have the claim processed.  The process usually requires that you speak directly to the insurer, and we’ll arrange that call here in our office.

Don’t let anyone tell you that the work is not warranted: we warrant our workmanship for one full year from the date of installation.

And don’t let anyone tell you that you have to use a particular glass shop:Virginia law gives you the right to choose where you will have your work done.

We do not waive deductibles: we believe in using only OEM aftermarket glass which is a part of the safety features of your vehicle – that glass, and the way it is installed in your vehicle, needs to take a great deal of force in the event of collision.  Don’t cut corners with your safety!

What types of products and services do you offer?

We specialize in glass installations, replacements and repairs for residential, commercial and automotive. We carry all types of glass and mirrors. If you are looking for replacement windows, remodel your bathroom with a shower enclosure, a new store from, auto glass or anything else glass related, we have you covered!

How much does glass cost?

Glass comes in a variety of thicknesses, from an eighth of an inch to an inch, and sometimes even more.  In addition, there are different types of glass: clear and tinted; safety and non-safety; plate and patterns; single pane and insulated – the list goes on.  So there is no simple way to answer this question.  Essentially, glass is priced by the square foot.  If we know the exact type of glass – whether or not it is tinted, what the thickness is, whether or not it is insulated, what the dimensions are, and what the specific installation is – then we can give you a price.

How much do you charge for a price quote?

Our price quotes are FREE!  We can give you an estimate over the phone if you call with dimensions and a description of the glass, or if you get in touch with us via our Quote Request page.  If you want us to go ahead, we will always schedule a site visit to get exact information about the glass; we’ll then confirm our estimate or revise it if conditions require.

Or we can come to your location for exact measurements.  When our quote is based on an on-site visit,   it’s not just an estimate – it’s a firm price to you.

What kind of payment is accepted?

We accept cash, checks, and Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express.

Do you replace glass in windows and patio doors?

Yes and Yes!

Do you cut Mirrors?

Yes; our mirror stock comes large sheets, so we can custom cut to your size and pattern.

What is insulated glass?

Insulated glass, also sometimes called double-pane, is made in “units” which consist of two (sometime three) panes of glass separated by spacers, and sealed with tough synthetic sealants.  The air inside is either left in place, removed or replaced with a gas.  If the seal goes bad, you will see condensation inside the unit.  At that point, you will know that the insulating value of the glass has been lost, and the condensation will increasingly obscure your view through the glass.  The unit must then be replaced.

Insulated glass can be made with internal muntins, the grid that makes the opening look as though it has multiple panes of glass.

What is the difference between tempered, laminated and plate glass?

Tempered glass is plate glass which has gone through a process in which the glass is heated to near-melting temperatures and then cooled in such a way as to create a stronger glass.  When tempered glass breaks, it shatters into many small pieces which sometimes will stay in place and sometimes scatter all around.  Plate glass breaks into larger shards which are extremely sharp and therefore quite dangerous.  Therefore, tempered glass is considered to be a “safety glass.”

Laminated glass is also considered a safety glass.  It is made by bonding two sheets of plate glass together by an interlayer of high-strength membrane.  The glass will break like plate glass, but the interlayer keeps the pieces in place.  Laminated glass can be used wherever safety glass is required, and is most often used where security is a consideration, since it takes great effort and a bit of time to break through laminated glass.

What is the difference between safety and non-safety glass?

Both tempered and laminated glass are termed “safety glass.”  Safety glass must, by Building Code, be used in doors, adjacent to doors, and in openings withing a certain height (usually 18 inches) of the adjacent walking surface.  This is true regardless of what type of glass was in the opening before.
