Mark and George recently traveled to North Wilkesboro, NC to visit Gardner Glass Products and take a tour of the facility. Gardner is a mirror manufacturer that has been in business 51 years, and is the creator of the Dreamwalls family of decorative glass products. At one time, North Wilkesboro was the mirror capital of the world, featuring two of the largest providers of mirror to the furniture industry that was once strong in the area. Today, Gardner continues making mirrors and has become the leader in back-painted glass with Dreamwalls Color Glass.Mark and George met with Mandy Marxen, VP of Marketing who was recently named to US Glass Magazine’s “Industry’s Most Influential” list in 2012. Bear was kind enough to bring lox and bagels down to the office staff, who enjoyed gobbling up the authentic New York delicacy. Mark and George were given the tour of the original mirror line, the fabrication facilities, the back-painting operation, and the tempering facility. Mandy and CFO, Melissa Lackey then took Mark and George to eat slow-smoked barbeque at Brushy Mountain Smokehouse and Creamery, which has been featured on the Food Network. The lunch was topped off with homemade ice cream in a waffle cone to cool off during what proved to be one of the hottest days of the summer. After discussing lean manufacturing, JIT (just in time) production, order processing, and meeting the entire team from customer service to our CFO, Mark and George enjoyed an italian dinner (where the photo was taken) and a good night’s rest before driving back up to New York in the Bear Glass-mobile. Gardner was happy to have them for their brief visit, and appreciate the partnership between Gardner Glass, Dreamwalls, and Bear Glass – the largest customer of Dreamwalls Color Glass in the Northeast. For more information on our Dreamwalls products please contact Bear Glass at:
