LASER TECHNOLOGY
A single laser beam penetrates through the crystal to an exact coordinate. By applying the required energy it fractures or melts the crystal at a specific point. This method is similar to a focused magnifying glass. The laser technology is non-invasive leaving no marks above or below the desired fractured point.
The leaded crystal is a world class optically clear product. This clarity eliminates deflection of the laser and insures a quality image. The typical image contains thirty to over one-hundred thousand points. Controlled by a computer program the laser starts on the bottom layer of the model and moves upward until the image or all points are complete. The video below demonstrates an image being fabricated.
The quality of the image is based on the number of points used to create an image and the diameter of the point created by the laser. The greater the number of points in an image reflects an increase in the models detail. Increasing points however increases laser production time required to produce a single product. To remain competitive we use the highest speed laser in the United States for this process. A product our laser makes in one minute our competitor requires thirty. This production advantage yields a high quality product at a lower cost to the consumer.
The reason that Bear Glass felt that this would be an asset for our firm is that it fuses the art of photography with the advanced 3D laser crystal engraving technology. The results are images permanently etched inside the 2D or 3D laser crystals. We have a large selection of high-quality, finely-polished 2D and 3D laser crystals with different shapes and various edge styles to further enhance the aesthetic effects of your laser photo crystal engraving. You can choose crystals with or without attached crystal base made of the same material.
We feel that this is an excellent addition to the various ways that Bear Glass is able to do artwork on glass and it rounds out our line. We sandblast on the surface, we paint on the surface, and we v groove on the surface. Now we have the ability to go inside the glass with our artwork.
