Our handmade antique mirrors have a natural and artistic finish, making each piece unique. Mirror antiquing, also known as distressed mirrors, is an important part of the design repertoire, transforming time and space. We offer multiple techniques to meet varying design requests. There are two distinctly different categories of Antique Mirrors. One has a decorative appearance while the other offers a more European style or realistic old world look and feel. Within each category are many styles to meet your requirements. Additionally, we welcome custom design requests.

Our Antiqued Mirrors are in homes, restaurants, casinos, on furniture and in hotels globally. We take pride in every custom Antique Mirror created and attention to detail is always our first and foremost concern.

Unfortunately many Antique Mirrors today are NOT HAND MADE, rather imported, mass-produced and machine made, which do not have an authentic old world look.  Please Beware. Also we do have antique mirror stock sheets available, if desired.

Mirror Resilvering

Each Antique mirror has its one unique look and feel, such as type of bevel, etching / engraving, shape, seeds/bubbles, waves and glass color. Many are irreplaceable heirlooms which long to be restored to their original reflective brilliance and luster. In order to accomplish this we remove the original tarnished reflective coating, clean the original glass and redeposit a fresh silver layer then seal the silver to protect the reflective coating. This process will give an Antique Mirror its original clarity and reflective brilliance it originally had.

Glass Silvering

Glass silvering / mirroring is accomplished by chemically depositing a unique silver solution on glass creating a high quality reflective surface. Since our process is hand crafted, we not only deposit clear silver (Mirror) on glass, we have the ability to create an Antique Mirror as well.

A soundproof glass is a glass that prevents sound from penetrating from one side to the other. In most cases, those desiring soundproof glass are those who live near noisy environments, such as airports of busy roads. While glass, in various configurations, may do a good job of preventing sound from getting through, it should be noted that soundproof glass, at least from a general consumer standpoint, is all but impossible to acquire.

There are a number of different ways to make glass soundproof. The first involves simply making the glass thicker. The thicker the glass is, the stiffer it becomes and, as a natural consequence, less prone to vibration. In such cases, the sound is naturally reduced. Another option is to insulate the glass with some other material, or perhaps just put an empty area in between two panes of glass.

To make soundproof glass completely capable of blocking all sound would be prohibitively expensive and likely not recommended for windows. The glass would need to be extremely thick and would be very heavy, perhaps overwhelming any material used in a typical window frame.

The most common place to find soundproof glass is a sound studio, where it is important for music and other types of recordings to have a quiet environment. However, even then the glass is not completely able to withstand all sounds.

In the world of sandblasting there are two techniques, etching and carving. Etching is when abrasive is blasted at the glass lightly to give the glass a frosty appearance. Depending on the speed and angle the abrasive is being applied, different shades can be created, allowing the glass to be a true work of art. Carving on the other hand is when steadily sandblasting is done to the surface of a glass using stencil which protects the areas you don’t want to be carved out. Sandblasting as a technique for carving can be much nuanced, with differing depths and angles of cuts creating an array of lighting effects that may be quite beautiful.

Common to residential homes, there is a need for privacy in areas of the front entry or over a tub in the bathroom. These are areas where an elegant or sophisticated design can lend to the privacy desired along with adding beauty and character to a home. Who does not want to take a look of him or herself at a mirror? And it always brings back the nostalgia if the mirror is an old one. For an old mirror it is natural that it would be a little discolored or fade, as that adds a different charm to its character. But neither for the old nor for a new mirror we expect a fade reflection or spots on the mirror glass.

A mirror, especially a good quality mirror is made of a high-grade glass with silver backing. When this silver-backing is damaged, we find discolorations, marks or scratches on the mirror glass which could not only ruin the look of that furniture but also the view of the whole room. And therefore the damage pieces need re-silvering to bring them back to their old states.

Silvering is mainly the chemical process of coating a glass with a reflective substance. Earlier silver was coated on the glass surface. But later sputtering powdered aluminum or other compounds are used in the place of silver. Therefore today, this process is also known as aluminizing.

Bear Glass uses modern technology of aluminum silvering for mirror re-silvering. In this process, a sheet of glass is placed in a vacuum chamber along with electrically heated nichrome coils to sublime the aluminum. The hot aluminum atoms travel at a straight line in vacuum, when they hit the surface of the mirror or glass, they cool and stick to it. Afterwards it needs either an evaporation of quartz onto the glass, or to get exposed in the open air or pure oxygen to form the layer of aluminum oxide.

Bear Glass does both front-silvered and back-silvered mirror re-silvering in this process. Most of the household mirrors are back silvered, which gives the glass a primary protection from corrosion or other damages.
